Minor Ailments

Save yourself a trip to the Doctor … there are some things you don’t have to see them about.

Minor ailments are generally taken to include conditions that require little or no medical intervention. However, most GP's continue to spend a significant proportion of their working day dealing with minor ailments. It has been estimated that between 100 and 150 million GP consultations a year are for conditions that are potentially self-treatable. In fact each GP’s workload could be reduced by up to 16 consultations a day if self-medication were encouraged for certain minor ailments.

Everyone can get professional advice and medicines from our pharmacies for the following common problems

eye infection (conjunctivitis)
constipation, cystitis, dermatitis,
eczema, skin rashes, diarrhoea, head lice,
hayfever, indigestion, heartburn, nappy rash,
sore throat, temperature, aches and pains,
thrush

Our Pharmacists and their teams have an important role to play in providing a convenient, accessible and where necessary private and confidential service from Stockbridge and Sturminster Pharmacy’s. No appointment is needed to see the Pharmacist and there is no anxiety that patients may feel about ‘bothering the doctor’. Arrangements can be made for fast-track referral to the GP if the Pharmacist believes this to be the most appropriate course of action following the consultation with the patient.

Medicines supplied through Sturminster Pharmacy under the Dorset Primary Care Trust ‘NHS Minor Ailment Scheme’ will be free of charge for those who don’t pay for prescriptions.

Together we can help the NHS better manage minor ailments by making full use of your local Stockbridge and Sturminster village Pharmacist.
